My last birthday makan session was with Nite and she brought me to this place Hopetoun Tea Room. She came across it on her compulsory lunch walks. There's always a queue at Hopetoun and not just for the cakes. This place is loaded with very good fine dining, one of the best I've been in Melbourne.
We ordered Duck Confitt with some salad,
freshly made fettuccine with lamb ragu (I want to try and make this someday)
and one of chef's recommendation, the souffle something something. When we tried to order dessert, the waitress halted us. Apparently we shocked her with our appetites. In the end we consent to wait until after food to decide on the dessert.
Ordering dessert proved to be a challenge. There's no menu, just a window full of all types of dessert. It was a tough decision and Nite said I pondered very long in front of the window.
In the end I decided on my birthday cake and a beautiful fig creme bulee. Nite said the waitress don't really need to expound on the virtues of the creme bulee and the ingredients. The minute it is creme bulee, it is destined to grace my table. The staff even sang me a song and personalized my birthday cake. It was WOW service and I definitely will come here again.
Next round the high tea!
